The Comet II is a nicely powered lathe at 3/4 horsepower. It is variable speed in between it's 3 adjustable belt positions. Take a look at the chrome plating on the headstock and the tailstock. Some occasional flaws there. When the headstock is up to speed those flaws can slice up your fingers. If you have them, be sure to sand or file them down so you don't get cut stopping the lathe. Congrats, you will enjoy turning with it. If you have problems, their customer service is superior.

Noticed one thing already. The lathe is reversible which seems nice for sanding. But my Barracuda 2 Chuck doesn't have any way to lock it to the threads. So I'm thinking it will come off if I start sanding in reverse. Anybody have one of these and have a solution???

Oh and if your buying one of these and are going to mount the grinder don't let them sell you the coupler attachment. It comes with one in the box now.

Its actually a stair tread from Lowes. Solid oak glued up in strips which should keep it strait. 1 inch thick and all I had to do is cut to length and mount to my lathe stand.
