I needed a vise to hold wood larger than pen blanks. This is what I came up with. It may not be orginal, but the concept was new to me. The only thing lacking is a pair of Mag-Jigs to hold it down to my drill press table. On this one the jaws are hard maple 2" x 4" 8" long using 8" 3/8 x 16 bolts. It can be made any size, larger or smaller depending on your needs.

So, the bolts are fixed into the left hand block?

Nice, Ben! All I'd change would be a couple wingnuts in place of the hex nuts.

What are you planning to clamp in there?

Steve,
The vise will be used mostly to hold wood to drill a 2" dia. hole for the Beal Treen Mandrel. And your right about the hex nuts, I've got a couple of nice knobs awaiting pick-up at Woodcraft
