Size and scale does matter. There are some tricks and tips to learn, but good cuts and fine details skills work. I learned that contact cement was not good stuff. The easiest tricks were learning to use titebond II and an electric iron to apply veneer. There are a couple of Finewoodworking articles on the topic -- Vacuum is great for larger stuff. Joe woodworker has DIY instructions there for doing as well as building vacuum press systems. It is a new slippery slope with new learning curves.

I have built large pcs of furniture with veneer. It is the way to go if done right. The press is your friend. I use a cold press veneer glue not hyde glue. make sure to have everything preped before applying glue. Follow joe woodworkers tips he is right on target and verry helpfull. Good luck!
