Two questions.
1) Can anyone tell me the difference between the "velvet project bag" and "apprentice velvet project bag" (besides the size and price) at CSUSA. Normally, their apprentice products seem to be of lesser quality. Is that true in this case as well?
2) I plan on using one of these for my stoppers. Is there something better that you prefer to offer with stoppers or do you find that people use the stoppers constantly and do not even use the bag. I'm thinking more of if it's a gift, it would look nice being in a velvet bag... thoughts/suggestions?

Jeremy:
I have bought both of these from CSUSA. The velvet project bag DID come in two sizes. The apprentice bag WAS available in only one size.

The major difference that I noticed is that the color of the regular bag looks to have better dye. The apprentice looks somewhat faded and less appealing than the small velvet project bag.

I also noticed that each Velvet bag had a "made in Tiawan" sticker on it. There was no sticker on the Apprentice bags , at all, making me "think" "China".

I can't comment on the product, but I would say that a velvet bag would make for a great way IMO to protect the stopper and may even be good enough for a gift.

When I sell a med to high range pen, I offer either a pen sized version of this OR a box depending. The customer takes the velvet bag more often than the box lately for me.

Yeah, looks like they have switched them around nowadays. I would RATHER have a choice of sizes in the regular bag instead of the apprentice. I feel like a 4 X 5 might be too big for my smaller stoppers. And I like the deeper black velvet, so I'd rather stay away from the apprentice bags if they are lighter in color.

I have been including a velvet pen bag with all of my pens and haven't had many people ask about boxes either. Though I think I would like to keep some of the "fancier" boxes on hand, just in case. I'm thinking if people like the velvet bags for the pens, they'll probably like them for stoppers as well... and probably corkscrews, I guess I need something to put those in as well!

My choice, too, for stoppers and T handles IS the smaller bag. CSUSA used to carry a burgundy small bag that looked fantastic. But it seems to have disappeared.

I did notice PSI had a small bag awhile back, I may order a 10 pack of those, just to check the quality.

I bought a pack of 50 from Fetpak company. They are a packaging company that we buy stuff from for our studio. The are aprox .60 each. They also come in mulitple colors, and sizes. They also have pen boxes and pouches at a great price too....

If there is a specific size everyone can agree upon, I can request them with my next order but I would need one or two sizes and I would do it as a group buy.

So I did a little research cause I was a little confused by this and hopefully it will be helpful to others as well. I did my research back until the Fall 2007/2008 catalog because that's when I started working for CSUSA. Some of you may recall further back then that and I'll rely on you to let me know!

A little while ago we did sell both "Deluxe Velvet Project Bags" (4" x 5", 111-0400 & 111-1400) and "Economy Project Bags" (3-1/4" x 4-1/2", 050-7024). As you can tell from the most recent catalog and sizes we still sell the "Deluxe Velvet Project Bags" and the "Economy Project Bags" by name appear to be replaced with the "Apprentice Velvet Project Bags"(small 2" x 2-1/2", standard 3-1/4" x 4-1/3", 979571). The standard sized bag listed under the "Apprentice Velvet Project Bags" is actually the same bag and supplier (Dayacom) as was being sold under the "Economy Project Bags" name. We simply added a new supplier for the small sized bag and decided to change the name to "Apprentice Velvet Project Bags". The small bags do appear lighter (or faded) in color in comparison to the standard sized bags.

Hopefully this doesn't "muddy the waters" any more than it may already seem and please let me know if there are any questions or concerns!

Ok, let me see if I understand this correctly. Let's ignore the "apprentice" designation and just say that CSUSA sells 3 sizes of velvet project bags, small, medium and large. Are you saying the small is lighter in color and the medium and large are the same?

Three different suppliers of the three different sized bags. The largest has richest black to it with the medium being a touch lighter and the small feeling a bit faded in comparison to the medium. I know this can be hard to grasp but please know (as with most if not all the vendors on this site) if you purchase something and are not satisfied, give us a call so we can make it right.
