We are planning a Hawaiian vacation in Kailua-Kona the first week of June. Got all of the reservations taken care of over a week ago and thought that we were set. We were notified today that Kona Village, the resort we were staying at, received extensive damage from the tsunami and will be closed indefinitely. Back to the drawing board.

Wow, that is a bummer. when you make it to the Big Island make sure you stop by the Hilo side and see me, and bring an extra suitcase for the wood :)
I saw the damage that the tsunami did to the Kona Village and it damaged about 75% of all there buildings beyond repair, they would have to tear them down and start over. Some of the employes that were let go had there jobs for over 25 years and some more.
It is too bad they did not want to rebuild. Aloha.

Went in September

My Wife & I went in September. Stayed in Kona four nights 3 in Hilo, And had a wonderful time. There are fewer hotels in Hilo but talking to a friend that lives on the Hilo side, said very little damage there. I like the Kona side better but Hilo is nice too.
