For anyone interested in seeing some photos of our vacation that we just returned from on the West Coast of the South Island in New Zealand you can see them on flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/toniransfield/?saved=1

We had a wonderful time. The weather was not perfect, mostly over cast and drizzly but a good time, wish I had taken more photos (I think everyone says that:frown:) and as always its great to be back home for now:biggrin:

Met a guy from NZ who said it was the only place he knew of, that you could go skiing in the morning and surfing in the afternoon.
Also would like to visit.

Toni, very nice pic.s and I am sure you enjoyed your vacation. I have a qsn. they call it pancake rocks because of their shapes and are they volcanic. rocks piled up in giant mass. couldn't tell.

direct from Wikipedia "The Pancake Rocks are a heavily eroded limestone area where the sea bursts though a number of vertical blowholes during high tides. Together with the 'pancake'-layering of the limestone (created by immense pressure on alternating hard and soft layers of marine creatures and plant sediments),[1] these form the main attraction of the area."

So not volcanic at all surprisingly:eek:

Toni,
Nice pictures of your vacation. Glad you and your family had such an enjoyable time. Thanks for sharing. I, too, would like to visit New Zealand in the future.

Toni, thanks for the explanation, who would have thought about limestone alongside the sea, but who am I to say what's possible in nature?
BTW, did you guys find any gold pieces in the search o just the action of it?

Nice Pics looks like you had fun. Went strolling through the rest of the photos and saw the quilt cane. If you ever make another cane like that I'd love to buy a few pendants for my wife.
