I have yet another question..

I wanted to turn my grizzly mini lathe into a V.S. I got a $100.00 gift card for Penn State for my B-day. My question is, do I have to get the v.s motore setup through them, or do you think a Rheostat would work. If I could get away with not getting the whole setup, that would be great so I could get a bunch of kits instead.. PLease let me know..

Brian , a rheostat won't work on an AC motor and could even damage your lathes motor . The VS speed conversion kit is the ONLY way to go , if it will fit your lathe .

What Butch said.

I have the VS and I really like it for pens and bowls 6 inches and smaller. But from my experience in turning a few bowls/plates 8 to 11 inches, it is underpowered.
