I just bought a lathe from a gentleman that was going to make pool cues and he decided he couldn't make any money at it.
He showed me one of his cues ( it was gorgeous ).
He said that the finish he used was a UV cured varnish.
has anyone here used any such finishes on their pens?
the pool cue had a flawless glossy finish.
i was wondering what is involved and the durability.

The last place I worked used a UV cured finish on table tops. The finish was water based and sprayed on with compressed air. The top was passed under the UV lights and cured in seconds

If you can find the material I know where to get the UV lights. they make small ones for nail salons to use on acrylic nails. I think they run about $100.00
 
You can get the sun cure additve for PR from SunCure/SurfSource. You can also buy the PR with the additive already mixed in.

I have used the Sun Cure PR on tool handles and it does exactly as it sez. It cures in minutes. Speed is a factor of light. Too fast/too much light and the cure will generate heat and induce cracking. I placed my tools out on a table in diffused shade for a couple of hours and then walked out and grabbed them barehanded and they were nice and sealed, hardend with a nice smooth finish. Next I will try it on some pens.

I believe the SunCure PR also has a UV inhibitor in it.

The guys are nice sometimes they talk real fast, so if you give them a call ask them to slow down, if you have a hard time understanding them as I did and I grew up here(their accent is Florida surfer dude). The resin they use, as they told me (after speed translation) is Silmar 249, Surfboard resin, with the TiO2 additive.

I know some of the suppliers sell uv booth for spraying cues,unique products is one,most cuemakers use 2 part auto clearcoat sprayed on with cue turning slowly,wet sanded then buffing compounds
