I survived Day #1 !!!
Each year the Utah Woodturners Symposium https://www.utahwoodturning.com/ becomes the focus for May for me. Between Super Wednesday that is sponsored by Craft Supply USA and the 3 days at the symposium, there are 124 individual demonstrations (Yes, I counted) put on by turners from around the world. To say the skill level is high is an understatement. The trick is to map out the ones you want to see and develop a plan.....not as easy as it sounds. Not a year goes by that I don't walk away with a ton of new knowledge. The day starts out with the infamous CSUSA clearance sale....this is not for the weak of heart .... Black Friday during Christmas doesn't even come close and the deals are terrific.
Among the demonstrators today was IAP's own Curtis Seebeck. I actually had a brief chance to meet him and say hello (he's a lot taller in person than his Avatar indicates!). As expected his presentation on stabilization was a packed house. Fortunately he will be doing quite a few of them so I'll get a chance to see the entire presentation over the next few days.
Tonight is the Pen Rendezvous which is always amazing. One of the highlights I am looking forward to is the demonstration put on by Mark Gisi on various forms of segmenting.
Well, time to buckle up for day #2......hopefully I'll get a chance to meet some other IAP folks who only exist in my computer right now.
Cheers
Bob
