There are some current threads regarding shipments being lost in the mail, this reminded me of a story that happened at my local PO a couple of years ago. An employee working in the PO, not on a route, stole over 11,000 packages. He probably wouldn't have been interested in a pen but it's a crazy example of what can happen.

What's sick is that it took 11,000 packages before it ended. More reason to have some of that beam me up technology so you can hand deliver every pen.

That's why I could help but chuckle at the comment by my mail clerk that this stuff didn't happen. There are some pretty sick people out there, and some have no problem with doing something like this.

I'd guess that the only reason they actually caught him was because he is such an extreme case (50 packages per week!). IF you see one, you see two.

I think I'll start taping jingle bells or something that makes noise on my packages! I'm certainly going to be using more tape! (that won't keep some PO worker from chucking it in the trunk of their car while on a lunch break though)

I used to print my own shipping labels with my web header as a means of 'free advertising' as my packages went through the sorting facilities. Thinking I may opt for a more discreet label now.

I'm waiting for the 3rd part of my modular Marine sleeping system via USPS...toasted mine in Haiti. Gonna suck if they lose it. 14 days and waiting.
