your going to get a different opinion from every body...
I sand for each mm grit with the lathe on and then with the grain,
but only until the third or fouth grit. Assuming that the roughest grit is number 1.

I can't see feel a difference in a enduro or an CA finish

I cross sand once using the last regular 400 grit sandpaper (cloth strip). According to the MM conversion table 1500MM is the same as 400. So I sand at 400 turning sloww the vs to real slow and cross sand then sand with 1500 turning. I also start using water (w/ a little soap) when I switch to MM assuming I have a finish on at this point. I never use MM on raw wood accept on wood that I don't use real finish (like tulip, or teak).
