US Marines

I am having a party this weekend at my house for all the cigar store owners I work with as well as those I don't and a bunch of other people in the cigar industry. I am having a cigar roller setup his desk and he will be rolling cigars for us, but the minimum is 100 cigars. I will only have about 30 people here. I called Toy's for Tot's and asked them if anyone wanted to come and that I would donate some money and set up a donation jar for the cigars that will be made.

I never served in the military so don't know much about its culture, but the guy I talked to was one of the nicest, most polite young men I have ever spoken to. He just got back to me and said he would send a couple of Marines that enjoyed cigars to attend the party. Along with the money I am going to give them all the extra cigars. I can't wait to meet them.

Just wanted to say something about them. If they are as tough as portrayed in some movies and polite as the young man I spoke too, that is an awesome combination. I sure hope they have a good time.

That is a great gesture! Today is also the Marine Corps' 235 birthday, a very big deal in the Marine Corps. So to all of the Marines on IAP, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the Corps.

One of our very good friends is a career Marine. He is currently a Gunnery Sergeant. We were fortunate enough to be his guest at the annual Marine ball last year. I was completely blown away by the sense of pride, camaraderie and brotherhood these guys have. I was genuinely jealous that I was not a part of the rich history and tradition these guys have.

Every single person we met that night was exactly as you described. Tough as nails but as polite and respectful as an people I have ever met.

I finally got the pictures from my party with the marine. Here are a few. I think he had a really good time. We sent him home with $250.00 for toys for tots and about 50 hand rolled cigars. I have attached an assortment of pictures of mostly the Marine. the guy in the light green shirt is me. The guy sitting at the desk is Kiki. He is a local cigar roller. Many of the people are owners and employees of some of the cigar stores around town.

My experience with the Marines I have known has been very similar to all yours. Over time I have come to realize that politeness, true politeness, comes from stringth and dissapline. Two of the main stringths of our Marines. When you have the power of these fine men, there is no need to flaunt it wildly. They do us a great service by standing tall when needed. No, I am not of the Marine caliber, I just respect them mightly.

Yea, the guy that came to my party was a real gentlemen. When he first arrived he held his hat under his arm and stood almost at attention. I asked him if he wanted something to eat and he said, "No thank you sir". I then asked him if he was allowed to drink while in dress uniform. He perked up and said, "It's every marine's duty to drink regardless of how he's dressed." I thought that was pretty funny. He had a few glasses of sangria and had a great time. He was a big hit with all the ladies at the party. They couldn't get enough of him, lol. He looked really sharp in his dress uniform. I sent him all the photos from the party, he wanted to post them somewhere.
