unaxol finishing

Hey everyone,

I was making a keychain today and when i was applying the unaxol, rings showed up all over the blank. Anyway to minimize getting the "rings around the blank?" thanks

How smooth was the applicator? I've found if I use something with a pattern to apply the finish then I get the rings in the finish. Also how many coats and what was your sanding technique?

i use rags to apply the finish, i normally put on 2-3 coats of unaxol with finish with MM up to 12000

How long do you let dry between coats? When I started using it I was instructed to let it dry about 5 mins between coats and use about 5-6 thin coats. I was using t-shirt material but I might try Viva on my next finish. I still occasionaly get rings but I am able to sand them out most of the time.

Cool I'm glad it helped. But I am no way an expert. Most of my info I got from Cav. He is the best.

Do you apply this with the blank turning with the lathe on, or turning by hand when you apply?

i apply with the lathe on around 1000 rpms. works pretty well

I've always done it with the same speed as my other finishes with the lathe turned on. Can't give you the exact rpm but it's at the bottom of the dial.
