Just looking for low smell/fumes with two part epoxy. I have CLL and have developed some lung problems over the past year. I want to continue my pen hobby, however epoxy and CA fumes really cause me problems. I have claustrophobia and wearing a full face respirator is also a problem. Any help with low fume glues would be great. I have been looking at soldering station fume extractors that may help at a specific location on bench during glue up, any thoughts. Thanks for any input. Bob

Can't help you with an alternative epoxy, but have you tried a half-face respirator? I have a full face PAPR, as well as a half face. The PAPR I use when I'm doing bigger projects, more dust...but the half-face I use when I just need to protect my lungs. Its a nice tradeoff...doesn't cover my eyes, or my head, just my nose and mouth. I use the pink and mustard colored filters, which bond with organic vapors (i.e. most VOCs), so I don't smell fumes from most VOC-emitting stuff. I don't generally smell the stink of epoxies, for example.

I use System 3 T-88 epoxy. Very low odor. Have you tried the Trend Air Shield Pro? Full face shield but there's a constant flow of air across your face that really helps me out. Good luck on your quest.

I also use T-88 and can confirm that it's low odor. (not zero though).

In addition to the above recommendations, if your budget and space allow, I would recommend a shop air filter like a Jet AFS 1000.

Great suggestion on the Jet AFS 1000. I do have one in my shop and use it a lot. It's a big help. I also am in the process of setting up a dust collection system that now is just hooked up to the table saw. Works great on the TS but I need to get it hooked up to everything in the shop. Probably a Fall/Winter project.

I've been thinking on coming up with some kind of laminar flow arrangement I can hook up to my dust collector for my assembly table to help with fumes from gluing, soldering, etc. In the interim I have found that a simple fan on the floor blowing towards the table helps a lot - with the smell anyway. I'm sure all of the nasties from the adhesive solvents and outgassing are still lurking in the room with me though. - Dave

I use BSI 30 minute available at Hobby Lobby, I tried JB Weld but my wife hated the smell, didn't care what the other stuff cost just get rid of that.

To answer your question, I use BarrelBond from System 3. 5 min gel glue designed for holding tubes in blanks. Never had a failure since I started using it. Get it at Woodcraft or Rockler. Little to no odor. Odors drive me crazy since I quit smoking several years ago

I would recommend you set up a fan that blows over your shoulder to take the fumes away from your breathing zone. It's amazing how well a fan works to improve your comfort level. I once attended a Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response class taught by a couple of guys who were on the Exxon-Valdez cleanup. Main thing I learned from him was "The solution to pollution is dilution". If you can't smell the vapors they are probably gone or so diluted they are no longer present at a hazardous level.
