I am just getting around to start cleaning and setting up my "new" band saw that i pick up a week or so ago. It is a little on the older side and needs a good cleaning up and adjusting. I have loosened things up and vacuumed out the inside, removed the saw blade, etc....

Now I'm putting things back together and I'm unsure if I should put the used saw blade back on which is 1/2" or should I replace it with a new blade that I have on hand which is only 1/4". The old blade still seems in pretty good condition although there is a bit of pitch residue on the sides of the blade, no rust, no kinks or other visible damage.

If there the preference to what use blade one should use for basic straight form cutting?

Any suggestion as to maintenance routines or lubrication or things to keep an eye open for?

Thank you,
Dana

Dana,
I have a couple books about the care, set up and maintenance for bandsaws. Your welcome to borrow one or both. Proper set up of the saw is important for blade life and safety. I'm home today if you want to give me a call.

I like the 1/4" for general cutting, but i use a 1/2" for re-sawing. However my BS changing blades is a knuckle buster. So i leave the 1/2" in all the time, unless i am doing something specific. Carl
