We'll its official, I had a moderate Heat stroke. Just got back from my third Dr. Appt since last Thursday. I got over heated last Wednesday at work. Thought I was fine, got inside, got cooled down. Been extremely weak, sick to my stomach, bad head aches, numbness in my left hand ever since. Tried to blame it on my wife's cooking. Doc said I was lucky this time, and that I need to loss weight of course. Momma said the shop is off limits till I get better.

Did learn one thing I never knew that I thought I'd pass along. Most of us who work outside tend to drink a lot of Gatorade or powerade. Doc said that it was one of the worst things you could drink. Apparently when it was first made it did what it was supposed to, re hydrate you with electrolytes. Now Its mainly sugar which makes you sick when you over heat, causing you to become more dehydrated. She said to mix it 1 part Gatorade to 3 parts water

I am happy to hear that it was not worse. Thanks for the tip. My daughter will only drink the Vitamin Water that they sell in the convenient stores, but they say on TV that bottled water has too much Chlorine. Who knows? Take it easy and get feeling better.

I learned that lesson years ago when I was racing bicycles. I used to put gatorade in my bottles and couldn't figure out why I was never getting properly hydrated. One of the more experienced guys told me to just add enough for taste and the rest should be water. Use the gels and bars for the carbs. Made a huge difference and my hydration level increased greatly. Hope you get better soon and into the shop.

Good information you shared.

Here in the 100* temps in Texas, we are having a difficult time with our workers. They wear FRC flame retardant clothing with sleeves rolled down and are watched to make sure they drink water and more water. they must have 2o min rest / cool down in every hour.

Our formula is one gaterade = 4 bottles of water.

Stay cool

Take care of yourself. Glad you are alright. I didn't know that about Gatorade. Guess I will steer clear of that now. I used to buy it when I knew I would be hiking etc. Like they always say, nothing is better than just plain water. I have to keep that in mind although I have a tough time drinking it all the time. Stay cool my friend!
