Hi guys
Many moons ago i remember seeing an advert for a shooting range in the states, but it wasnt just any old shooting range. it gave you the opportunity to go there and fire rediculous weapons like mini guns and AA guns, at night with tracer rounds etc... it was like a shooting range on steroids.

Does anyone know of such a place? id like to take a trip

Brad; You could always sign up for a tour of Afghanistan. The trip would be paid for by the government, and I'm sure you would get to fire all the weapons you wanted under many different conditions. Just kidding of cource, I wouldn't want to see anybody go there. Jim S

If you do a search on machine gun rentals you get quite few selections. However not the one your looking for. I remember seeing some clips on it but dont remember the name. One of our other members should be along that know of it.

thanks for the suggestion Jim, though ive been in Iraq for two tours so wont be taking up your suggestion.

Thanks for the link il do some reading

I saw a video of one located in on of the Southern States. It was wild, they had just about anything you wanted and did night fire. I will see if I can find it.

Open all of the time, as a Bring Your Own range, but twice per year, you can experience the wild and crazy with hundreds of legally-owned fully automatic weapons. And, you can pay to rent time on various guns. It is hundreds of dollars to shoot the GE Mini-gun, and last a few seconds, but is like nothing else you have done outside of active-duty firefights.

Get ready for the next Machine gun shoot.

There are other places where you can rent full-autos most anytime. Vegas.
I thought I saw a place in Honolulu, when I was there years ago.

Good luck ... you will enjoy it if you get the chance.

Just keep in mind some of these shooting ranges require you to be a U.S. citizen and or have a valid U.S. drivers license or be accompanied by a member.

If you able to find a range that meets your requirements you'll just need cash, Lots of it. With the looming bans and political hoohaw going on the price of ammo and certain firearms has increased dramatically.

Brad; Here is a web site you might be interested in. www.redjacketfirearms.com. They have a show on USA TV that shows how they build some strange weapons for governments, police, and collectors. They will sell you anything if you have the proper licence. They have fired almost anything that will launch a projectal. Located in Baton Rouge, LA. USA Jim S

some great suggestions, thanks guys. as with regards to legalities il be sure to check all that out before booking anything etc.

Stay out of Calif Brad!! I can home from DS1/2 and was allowed to keep both my M4 and sidearm. Airport officials had a fit but I was at that time, as now, in the service of my country. The M4gery I just finished has a 37mm launcher on a rail. Smoke and flair bursts (USCG approved) are legal!!! Nevada, AZ, MN, CO and many others have places to enjoy exotic weapons...I'm still looking for my old laser designator ;)

You might be thinking of the Knob Creek shoot.

Knob Creek Shoot . com

But what's ridiculous about those guns or the shoot?

To you, they are an every day thing and it goes on all the time. Ilive in the UK, and our gun laws are so strict its untrue. if you have a legitimate reason you might be able to get a shotgun license, or a rifle license if your a member of a club etc but thats it... the toys you guys have over there to keep yourself entertained with is a completely rediculous notion of even getting to handle one in theUK let alone fire one. hence the use of the word, rediculous. clears it up?

Yeah, I guess.

I didn't realize stuff was actually banned from all possession there, just thought it was difficult to get a license.

A real shame since England is where the whole idea of personal freedom and liberties -including liberty of arms- originated.

Machine guns and artillery aren't as easy to get here as you might think here, you don't just walk into the local Walmart and buy them. You have to go to specially licensed dealers and fill out all kinds of paperwork and then pay a $200 tax on top of it just to get one and the whole process can take months to finalize. Only way around all those hoops it to form a corporation and have the corporation own them, then everyone in the corporate structure can have free access to them at will (but you still got to pay that miserable 200 dollars each tax on every one).

Are there any nearby places in Europe where you can go to shoot and keep your arms there?

Brad; In order to own a full auto weapon in the USA, you must possess a Class 3 Federal Firearms licence, be a regestered Federal Firearms Dealer, or be in the service of the US government or some other law inforcement agency. There are other exceptions also. The weapon requires a lot of paperwork to own. However, my simi-auto AK47 reguires no licence to own, only regrestation upon purchase if bought at a gun shop or other store. I can go to a gun show and buy any semi-auto assult weapon or hand gun without a background check, and walk out with it the same day. Here is where the problem is in the USA. Damed if you do, damed if you don't. Most indoor ranges are not equipted to handle armor piercing ammo, so you can not shoot these weapons there for safety reasons. Many people will ask why did you buy this gun if you can't shoot it. My answer is that I look at it as a piece of art, not a weapon of mass destruction. For me it's ment to be displayed not shot. It is a very different looking weapon than most, and of course not everybody has one. Guns don't kill people, people kill people !! I dought that made you feel any better about being able to find a place to shoot, but that's my tale. Jim S

That made for an interesting read Jim, thanks for posting

Sure i know its a touchy subject all in all but i love all types of weapons. Not because of their ability of hurting people, or as you quite rightly said their handlers hurting people more to the point, but i love the design and technology behind them. Its the ultimate in precision engineering

When i was a teenager i represented our county on the ranges with .22lr and was some of the best years of my life. other than that ive played with a few others from LSW's, SA80's, M16's, but these were always on army bases. other than that, 4/10 and 12 guage shotguns clay pigeon shooting - though thats pretty much where the adventure ends in the UK. anything higher than that is just too difficult if not impossible to get your hands on. handguns are illegal end of. cant get a license for them, just outright banned.
