I'm playing with a different way ( for me anyway) of segmenting. The first one is a gun metal Comfort with dogwood and purpleheart. My second try is a chrome Sierra click with holly and blackwood. A few more tries and maybe I'll get it right. Please let me know what you think. Thanks

Dowel rods at diferent angles and off sets through the blank? Looks like the black one was double drilled? Looks awesome! great idea!

I drilled 1/2" holes 1" apart on two faces. I used a 1/2" plug cutter to cut the dowels. The black is the dowels on the second. I would love to try it with a mortising bit. The one with purpleheart I used a 3/8" bit. The 1/2' looks better.
 
Don't like the first one, but I do like the second. form the photo angle it has a flame look to it. Keep at it you are close.
 
I too like the second one. Put some colors in there and it would look like a peacock feather! Great idea. Thanks for sharing it.
