AS I'm sure you are all aware, RT Research has dramatically increased the cost of Tru-Stone (About 100%). I have received a letter from them to all retailers of Tru-Stone trying to explain why the price increase. It comes down to RT Research's costs have increased just as much. They are trying to keep production costs down, but not having much luck. So, to answer your questions, YES the rumors about the price increases are true, and YES, they are charging everyone the same amount for their products.

I buy large blocks, direct from RT Research, cut them down, and sell Tru-Stone blanks to IAP members at no or very low profit. However, with the new prices, it will be a long time before I will be able to purchase large blocks from them again unless a bunch of us want to try for a group buy. Anyone think that might happen?

I just went to their site, out of curiosity. They are pretty pricey. $135 for a 6" x 6" block, seems high. I also didn't know they had so many different styles available. I was only used to the ones you typically see on here or at Woodcraft. I'd be interested in a group buy if it gets that far, provided we can choose some new blocks to use.

I think that is for a block 2.5" thick though right? So if you cut the blanks 3/4" square it would be over 20 blanks right? Maybe my math is not right though.

I have not found tru-stone worth the extra cost though. They do not sell any better than the other acrylics I sell.

I sold 5.13 % tru-stone in 2014. by material Yet 17.2 % of my $ in sales came from Tru-stone Its a very attractive material to sale. I also throw out 15 - 20 % b/c it does not have the WOW factor. I also only show 3 at a story-- this gives the client the impression its exclusive! and expensive!

What is a WOW factor -- Its a state of mind! Your mind not the clients.

The malachite sells very fast, turquoise almost as fast. I love larimar, but I cannot sell it. The banded ivory is great for razor handles.

I might be in on a group buy.
