A couple months back I had a few items on IAP for sale or trade. I had some lathe gears on the list of items and an IAP member wanted them. I offered a simple trade for some blanks, then sent the gears out, postage paid.

Well, I never received the blanks. Value probably <$15.
My question is - should I just forget it or send a friendly reminder about the blanks.
First time this has even happened to me for any transaction on IAP.

Why wouldn't you send a note inquiring about the blanks? Maybe they forgot to send them and need a reminder. Maybe they got hit by a truck before they could send them and their widow has other things to worry about. Maybe they sent them and the post office lost them. How would they know unless you notified them?

It seems premature to be posting about it publicly before sending at least one followup message.

A friendly reminder will help, we all at times forget or lose an address, name or simply can't remember. SMJ1957 reminded me that after the bash was over and I had sent out all the IAP thermometers, I found one and asked if everyone received theirs and if not let me know, I'm still holding that thermometer for someone.

The recommended approach is to send a friendly reminder or two, then let me know if you're not getting a satisfactory response.

I can't beleive no one came foward on that thermometer. Those were nice.

Just to be clear, the thermometer wasn't mine!

I'm sorry to hear that. That's just not right. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I stiffed someone on a trade.

If you PM me your mailing address I would be willing to send you some blanks. I think I can spare some to restore the karmic balance of IAP.

I also make sure the person has logged on since I sent the PM... just to make sure they were able to read the message before accusing them of ignoring me.

But yeah, let Jeff know so no one else gets burned.

As much as we all, would like to live in a perfect world, that is just not possible so, it comes times where, the results of such, become most evident.

I have a big problem with dishonest people and I have also been guilty of making wrong assumptions, that makes me as mad as dealing with crooks, in not the first time that someone comes to IAP to take advantage of others and while I appreciate Jeff's disposition to deal with these sort of people, every so often someone has a go at it...!

I would hate to know that anything but honesty and truthfulness is behind so many of the sales, trades, swaps, give-a-ways within IAP walls so, I encourage anyone that may feel betrayed by anyone here, to come forwards and request "clarification"...!

Yes, no names should be revealed until the facts are determined, sometimes "things" are not what they look so, a little caution goes a long way however, if it is found that someone is dishonest and willing to take advantage of IAP members, I'm certainly most interested in know who this person is, or at least be assure that he/she is no longer a IAP member...!

A "reminder" can be useful in many ways, it makes as realise that, is not the first time and will not be the last...!

Cheers

Ed, my IAP balance is fine. Thanks for the thought. The trade items were hard to value (<$10); so, I just requested a couple blanks from local wood, etc.
I really don't need the blanks. It was just the concept of a trade.
