O.K next stupid question for you all. I have a Rikon mini lathe and thought it would be nice to make a few tool rests while stuck on the ship. Does anyone know the diameter of the shaft on the tool rest. Also what is the length of the support shaft of the tool rest. we have lots of scrap stainless round stock on here and thought I could use the boring midnight watches to make something I can use.

Thanks

Karl

5/8" diameter, 4-11/16" assembled height. I measured a tool rest on a friends Rikon mini lathe today. How about making a couple of posts, thread them and make several rests, 2", 4", 6" and 10" long? You could get adventurous and make a curved rest and right angle rest for bowls.

Actually I was going to make it with threaded tool rests as I am not that good at welding and it probably would not be level when I got done. And as you mentioned I can make several lengths and change them as needed. I might be able to get John to bend a few curved ones for me as he is great with the welder and torches.
