I may need counseling. First I won a lathe last year. Then bought tools. Read and studied everything I could find on turning. Took a bowl turning class. Got hooked. Started turning pens. Got hooked. Discovered IAP. Read more and more. Got hooked. Visit at least four turning web sites frequently because they sell everything I need (or is that a want?). I am a huge fan of burls but many sites can't keep some of the burls I want in stock. This is where the habit took a turn. I became a first time member of Ebay because I saw some of the burl blanks. It's been terrible (well, maybe that's the wife's opinion). :wink: I have approximately 25 burl blanks of various types coming my way. I guess several IAP members use eBay? Perhaps I am bidding against some of you? If so, my apologies but I have had a blast the past 1 1/2 days on eBay. But I am quitting tomorrow, I promise. :redface: Well, maybe, I keep bidding on amboyna burl and losing! :rolleyes:

It is addicting isn't it Mike. You may need a second job to satisfy that burl habit.

After adding up the bids I did win, I think I may have to. But I have to say I enjoyed the hunt and look forward to turning them.
 
We are here to help you with the Slippery Slope. Mainly in the area of how to properly apply wax to the skis so you can slide down faster... lol
 
I feel the same way. once a week i go into the local woodcraft and i think i pick up every piece of wood in there. Its like i have to touch them to get a feel for what they should become. haven't left that store in ages without at least 30 bucks spent. god forgive me if one day they have some good burls in there dollar bin or a nice piece of HRW
 
I know the feeling... My addiction is running more to keeping a supply of pen kits on hand. There are 3 woodstores in the Dallas area that I frequently visit. It is roughly a 75 mile trip one way to get to them. I try to go there pretty regular. I keep picking up pen kits faster than I can turn them. I just picked up another batch of pen kits off of one of our fellow IAP members on here. The vortex is rough...
 
Wait until he finds the burl of my choice..Cocobolo Burl...Some people invest in gold and silver, some buy bonds..I buy cocobolo burl.
And that doesnt even come close to the Cebloplast addiction..OMG...speaking of Cebloplast..got any for sale? LOL

Up to now amboyna burl and HRB are my favorites. I love cocobolo but have never seen burl cocobolo! I'm logging off IAP right now to check out eBay for cocobolo burl! Just to look of course.

I've only been turning for a year but have been into woodworking for a long time. Took the plung on lumber racks a long time ago. But I could use some more! :wink:
