Too Much Wood!

I never thought I would say that! I have a pretty good sized shop, so I have room for lots of wood. And I haven't been shy about building up a stock of wood. If I broke it all down into pen blanks, there would be enough to send everybody on IAP a nice box of blanks! No kidding!

For the past couple of weeks we have been trying to clean out our garage (separate from the shop) so we can actually park cars in there again. I know, weird, huh? Well, yesterday we reached a depth from my pre-shop era, when I used to do my turning in there, and we hit a stash of wood that I had completely forgotten about! Big chunks of burls, a whole bag of spalted birch, and a whole slew of other burls, knots and figured stock. Really, if anybody wanted to stop by, I would load then up!

I did find a whole Burl I had cut up into slices, but it was so rotted that it was like a sponge rather than wood. I had set it aside figuring I would eventually get back to it and see about stabilizing it. If somebody who does the worthless wood kind of casting is interested, I would send it to you in exchange for some finished blanks when you're done.

Scott.

COUNT ME IN PLEASE. I WOULD BE SUPER HAPPY TO HELP YOU GET SOME EXTRA WOOD OUT OF THE GARAGE.....
I CAN CAST AND REND SOME BLANKS. ARE YOU ALSO LOOKING AT SENDING REGULAR SOLID WOOD?
IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THAT CHEAP STOCK LIKE AMBOYNA BUCKEYE MAPLE CHERRY ETC. BURL. OR THE REALLY CHEAP WOOD LIKE GABON EBONY JUST LET ME KNOW HOW MUCH THE SHIPPING COST IS. I WOULD IMAGINE THAT "WOOD" BE SOME TYPES THAT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO GET RID OF...SO I AM HERE TO HELP...LOL
IN ALL SERIOUSNESS I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO SEND IT OUT. I DO MUCH MORE THAN JUST PEN BLANK SIZE STOCK IF YOU CAN KEEP THAT IN MIND AND LET ME KNOW.
THANKS KEVIN

I've telling myself I need to get some more burls and back off the acrylic for a little while. I'd love to have some as well.

Wish I'd known that last week when I took my wife up to Rexburg to help our youngest daughter & SIL with our newest grandbaby!

She's (SHMBO) still up there....I could probably get my SIL to swing by to help lighten up your load by a couple of pieces or so.....

I'll be seeing them again in a couple of weeks....either in Rexburg or Tooele, Ut when the baby gets blessed.

Send me a PM with particulars and I'll see if they'll be willing to stop by.

THANKS

Barney

Thank you all for your generous offers to lighten my terrible burden!

Actually, Barney may be the winner if he can get SIL to take a short drive. We'll talk.

That, and I would still like to send that spongy Burl to somebody to try casting it. Like I said, it's a terrible burden!

I would love some of the so called "worthless wood" to try my hand at casting hybrid blanks and would be glad to send a couple back your way. I have a casting pot but have been looking for wood that would work for a hybrid type blank. Hopefully you still have some available. Thanks, Darren.

Wood

Hello Scott I just got home from vacation and checked the site. I would like some wood if you have any extra. I have been in Idaho Falls for 5yrs. looking for people that turn.

Just a thought, what about someone that is using Curtis' Cactus Juice? If it is something that could be stabilized, then maybe someone that is using it could make it good enough to turn. You might even ask Curtis to try a stick or two and see if it is feasible.
