I found this piece of hard maple at the mill today. It has ingrown bark all the way though it.

I want to try to make a pen out of it.

Has anyone turned anything like this???

That'll make some beautifull pens.Be prepared to put some overtime finishing though cause it will sand unevenly with all the bark in it.Build up the CA,cut it down, build it up again, repeat as necessary. It'll be worth it.

I would wet sand with BLO, and 320 grit to fill the voids. (Then continue to sand with finer grits as usual) Gives a nice smooth base for the CA.
