I thought I'd play a little trick on my pen swap partner this year. Here is the email I sent him.
I'm your partner! I am so excited to participate in this years exchange.
Little about me
I just started turning this week but I think I've put my out of round issues behind me. I am currently using a drill gun to turn my blanks. I am having a little trouble holding the drill gun and turning the blank down at the same time. I don't think my tools are sharp enough but I saw a video on Utube this week on sharpening so everything is all good.
As for a finish I have applied CA a few times but I always have issues with the glue sticking to the plating on the pen kits, also I don't know how to apply the glue under the clip yet. Still trying to figure that out.
How long have you been turning and what do you use?
Hope to talk to you soon.
If you are interested we can do some sort of blank exchange as well. I have lots of really nice pine I rescued from the wood pile.

Here is his response.
G'day Manny, nice to hear from you. I started turning pens about 18 months ago, this is my second Australia day pen swap. My partner last year was Tom Gengelbach.
I generally use ca finish on my wooden pens. Have only done a few acrylic pens on purchased blanks but just got myself a pressure pot and molds so am about to embark on a new learning experience.
I generally source my timber blanks from local species, I live in a semi arid area and there is quite a variety of interesting plant species with excellent figure and coloration etc.
I will send some blanks but a lot of our wood is very dense and hard, you need really sharp tools, maybe you would prefer some of the lighter stuff which I also can find locally until you gain a tad more experience?
Just on the ca finish, you are not applying after the pen is assembled are you? Never have tried or heard of doing it that way. I am happy enough to offer any advice if ever you need assistance while you are learning, just send a pm or whatever.
Love those guys!
