My son wanted a fountain pen, so we got a kit and made a pen together. Unfortunately, I forgot to get photos, but it came out fantastic.

Included in the kit was this:

Can someone tell me what it is? I assume it's something to do with refilling the ink given how similar the bottom (clear) part is in shape to the ink cartridge. But beyond that, I have idea.

It's an ink converter, which can be used with your own ink as an alternative to the cartridge.
Thank you! This is why I haven't gotten into foutain pens. It's such a niche market, and I know that people's preferences are all over the place. Too many pitfalls, and too much specialized knowledge, for a market that I don't think I can really tap where I'm at. But now I know!

Don't overlook the market for hand crafted fountain pens. I've had 3 commissioned last month. Inexpensive kits with nice blanks.

Sure, the high end ones are certainly niche, but I see more and more people talking about using fountain pens. online

I've got a handful completed I'll be taking to a couple of shows the next couple of months so we'll see.

I journal every morning with a Presimo fountain pen using one of those converters in your picture.
