The winter brings with it many enjoyable times such as the Holidays and the gathering of family and friends and sharing the love and joy of each others company. Many familys are getting larger with each passing year but also like mine getting smaller. The reality of life. But within these days comes another enjoyment and that is more shop time. During the summer months and Spring months, we get busy with home projects and family projects. But if you are lucky enough to have a shop that is heated and easy access to be worked in, these months can be very rewarding. I realize not all of us live in cold weather winters but we can still use the same excuse to get in some shop time. Speaking for myself I have been involved with many home projects basically throughout the years and it has really limited me to any alone shop time. Well this year I am hoping to change that somewhat and get some projects done that I really wanted to work on and do it just for fun. Both working on a few pens but alot of boxes and things like that. I want to make a huge variety of different type of boxes. Some fancy and some plain but different shapes. Will see how it goes.

So does anyone else have goals this winter? Also does anyone have big prurchases they want to make as tools or materials. Are you looking to try some new things this winter? I do know that plans do not always work out but hopefully we can enjoy some shop time. Winter is basically the only time I can get shop time these days. I have made these plans before but could not follow through but I am itching to get back in the shop. I see many nice pens and projects show up here and gets me jelous. So keep them coming and keep us all entertained through the winter. Have fun!!

Plan on upcoming displays for my venue. Purchases in the next couple of months will be for fly fishing pens, baseball, tennis, golf, etc., to fit the spring and summer. There are a bunch of blanks for these sports as well as kits. Or something simple like Slimline clip.
I'm fortunate that my shop has a vent connected to the house heat pump. Even at 25 degrees, it was 62 in the shop (keep the door closed!). Started the electric heater this morning before breakfast and up to 70 degrees! Summer time is a relief from the Sunny South.

My shop is still not fully insulated, maybe 80% done. The only heat I have is a Dewalt 215,000 btu forced air heater. I only run kerosene in it, so fumes are not as bad as running diesel in it. I do have an exhaust fan in my back wall in case. Lol It does heat the shop up pretty fast tho'. I don't really do much in the winter time unless I have requests for anything or if I get bored and piddle with some leather or laser work. Other than that, I'm picking up pine cones in the yard twice a week and burning them. Lol

Bobby heating his shop!

My shop is in the "basement". I say that in quotes because it's a brick ranch, but the lot slopes a little and there is a garage door that opens into it on the back of the house. It's climate controlled to a point, but still cooler than the finished room down there. The radiant heater does just fine, though. I go down there in the summer heat and humidity to cool off. What I should be doing are the home projects. Eh, I can procrastinate on those tomorrow.
