a few weeks ago a good friend gave me some butt ugly mallee burl.
it was so honeycombed and dry that we were not sure you could get anything out of it. I managed to get a few blanks from it. Turning it was a challenge as tons of DUST flew off, there was no shavings at all, so Here are the before and after.

The solid blank you salvaged looks great, but the really punky stuff with all the holes is just begging to be cast. I'd say from the color of the finished product, dark green with some gold against that red wood would really pop.
 
used what little that was solid....

I dont th ink this will cast as it is dusty dust dry and there would not be anything left after the dust settled!
 
I have had some Pm's re the ugly stuff.....now you all have seen what I will throw in a pressue pot.....and you know that I am working on it and you will all see what comes out of my FrankenPot!!! Stay tuned~~~~muhhhhhaaaaa!!!
