here's the 'central machinery' (HF) jointer i posted about the other day. i've spent much of my free time this week having fun with it. it ran just fine when i got it and seemed set up quite well. here's a few photos of what i did with it.
fresh out of the truck...
quite a bit of rust and pitting.
here it is with most of the paint stripped off. mostly a wire wheel. a little stripper for the heavy parts. but that stuff stinks!
most of the rust and weird marks have been sanded out. tried a variety of methods and settled on my random orbit sander, starting with 120 grit and working up to 220. finish sand with a block and 320. all the while lubricated with mineral spirits or tri-flow. i also used a razor blade to scrape off heavy rust and gummy spots.
i primed it with engine enamel primer and gave it the 'G.M. BLUE' engine enamel. it's nice paint for tools. thanks Lee for the suggestion. you can see the fence mostly paint-free. i had to use a bunch of stripper on that part.
here's the base with a coat of rust cover krylon. there was a lot of rust that i didn't care to get off the base so i just decided to paint over it. you can also see that i'm lazy and didn't paint the inside of it.
and here she is all finished up. i didn't feel like spending the money on more engine enamel, so i just painted the base a color that was close. i actually like how it ended up. i also put a new power cord on it. i went with 'safety orange' for the blade guard.
i had a fun time with it. thanks for looking.
