To all those who have complained about the "changes" in the IAP:

Have you considered that Jeff COULD decide the benefits of the IAP (fame and glory) are outweighed by the criticisms?

Suppose Jeff chooses to say, "To heck with them all, I'm going to start a flashlite forum---the IAP is populated with a bunch of people who just DON'T LIKE me!!

Just consider where that leaves all of us.
Especially those of you who enjoy telling Jeff what he should do and how he should do it.

Sometimes it helps to evaluate ALL your options before writing flaming entries or emails!!

Change is one of the only reliable universal constants. People hate that.

But you can't take change personally or make it emotional. That is often forgotten!

Many times I have typed responses to PM's or entries but thought before I sent and deleted it!

I wish some others would think about that before they hit the send button .....This place would be a much better place if that happened.....

Don't forget the chicks! Forum adminstators are right up there with rock stars and NFL players, I suspect.

But in all seriousness, I think maybe some of us who think Jeff is doing a great job need to speak up and applaude him. I would suspect that are far more people who support Jeff and his recent changes than those who oppose it, but he's only hearing one side right now.

The sneaky adds in out post bother me MUCH less than the flames I find from time to time. Often these are started by someone offering help or their opinion on a subject and letting the following conversations get out of hand. I am not immune to this problem. Yes, much to my shame, I have been the recipient of a kindly worded note form one or the other of the mods. I always respond with a "sorry about that" note to the individual mod and a thank you for doing their job and keeping our site and myself within the bounds.

Jeff, the administrators and the moderators do a wonderful and thankless job here. My offerings on the change subject, both posted and PM, were meant to be helpful. The one suggestion to Jeff was responded to in the affirmative and was already in the works. Their group apparently have spent many hours trying to make this work, both for us and to us. Yes Ed, I have thought of that exact thing more than once. If it were my money, time and effort instead of Jeff's, I do not know. I do however believe that I would have set restrictions well back. I do not know him, but he must have the patients of Jobe.

Thank you Jeff, the Administrators and all the moderators for providing all the rest of us this great place to learn and share. My $1.50. I went way past 2 cents today.

Unfortunately change is personal. A person is asked to change their behavior when the rules change.

As for the flashlight forum those could get ugly. Have you ever been around when mechanics are comparing their tools (Heads out of the gutter please) A MAC man and Snap-On man can get into some heated discussions.

I have been pretty quiet since coming back to the IAP, But i have never had anything but 100% RESPECT for Jeff and all those who work so hard to take care of this site for the benefit of all of us. I'm thinking it is time to stop being such a wall flower  Thank you Jeff and to everybody who make this such a wonderful place to learn and make new friends!!!!

It is not cheap having site like this. I and few others here belong to woodworking site that uses the same software. Every year we raise close to $4000 to help keep the site going. That just covers the cost, no profit. Like Jeff says he is not in it to make money and the Birthday Bash probably doesn't raise that much after buying the Mugs and other prizes that are not donated. I feel that if everyone stops getting their undies in a bunch and just let things go and see what adjusments need to be made, every thing will be fine. If you buy a $10 AD and sell 100 pen blanks you can raise the price .10 per blank to cover your cost. Like Ed said I would hate to have Jeff "nuke" the site. While I do not sell here, I sure buy alot and would hate to loose the ability to purchase quality stuff over a few cents per item. Now if someone would help me off my soapbox so I can go releive LOML taking care of our 11 month old grandson while mom and dad are out of town working I would appriciate it. Thanks Jeff and the mods for all you hard work.

What a GREAT suggestion, Bruce!!!

He's had plenty of mail, I'll bet. How about a few people take a minute to write a very simple PM--- (his IAP name is "Jeff")

"THANKS JEFF,
I LOVE the IAP.

Couple hundred of those might make his day a little brighter.

Has IAP ever made YOUR day brighter? Now you could return the favor.

I thought Jeff asked that these types of threads not be started.

Is this another start to a 43 page thread?

My apologies. After all that reading and trying to keep up... I got confused.
I get in trouble for that here too.

Changes? I haven't been effected by any changes. Thanks to Jeff? You bet!

Thanks Jeff for the IAP and all you have done for the pen turning community! This truly is a great site and resource for turners of all skill levels and I can honestly say it has helped my work a great deal. The IAP is run very smoothly and it's become one of my favorite on line haunts. The vast majority of the members are as skilled and talented as the staff, truly a showcase for some great work.

Dean's hard to ignore

Ha!!! Respect my authority!

I like it.. Not quite enough to change my avatar, but close! Look out Curtis - I think they think I want your job!

Although Spock would be a better one for my role (2nd in command to Kirk), who reports to Admiral Jeff. Then Andrew can be Riker (2nd in command to Picard) who also reports to Admiral Jeff. Of course that makes Curtis both Kirk AND Picard - forever solving that debate. (And this whole paragraph just proves my nickname! )

*Oh dear. What did I miss?*

I think this is probably the most well-run and useful board I've ever seen. I hope any ruffled feathers can be smoothed out and that we can all find time to appreciate what a superb asset IAP is. The folks who run it are the best.

Change can be man made or naturally occur. Whatever the initiator is the result is always the same............ EVOLUTION.

Thanks Jeff for the IAP. THe biggest impact on my pen turner EVOLUTION.

Well, I appreciate your kind words! It's very thoughtful of you all.

I always KNOW the supporters are our there, but it was nice to hear from you today.

Thank you, my friends!

Only one thing I can say......Props to the sci-fi geek!!!!!

My thoughts on this are that we are all guests to Jeff's party. We ought to behave as though we were physically at his home and treat one another with respect.

That said, it is unrealistic and naive to expect that inviting this many guests to the same party would result in universal love and good cheer. If you are going to have opinions presented, even with something as innocent as a precious little Slimline, then you are going to have disagreements about how to properly apply a CA finish (3 coats thin, 4 coats med, sand to 600, 6 more coats med, sand to 2000, no BLO, for those who don't already know:wink:), along with everything else under the sun.

It's just about respect. If you don't have any respect for those appointed (or anointed for the more cynical among us) to moderate, then you should find another outlet for your ignorance. This is not a democracy here. Your right to say whatever you want ends when you enter the site.

I never commented on the changes. This is his house and I'm a guest. I'm not a hostage, I can accept his rules while at his house or leave and build my own house, its pretty plain and simple. Just ask yourself would you let me come into your world and make whatever rules I want, do whatever I like, can I eat all your food and sleep with your woman? Its all free? In my world not only should bills be paid, a profit should occur.

I have been on this forum for quite sometime now and I personally think it's the best site on the INTERNET. Almost everyone is willing to help you if you need something. I buy most everything I need from the people on this site and I haven't had a bad transaction yet. I would also like to thank Jeff for this site and all he does for us. The moderators in my opinion do a fabulous job. Thanks to everyone who make this a great place to learn.

I can't add much that hasn't been said already. This is a very well managed (and both enjoyable and informative) forum. Let's all raise our glasses and salute Jeff and the Mods for such a wonderful job. Besides I have more money to spend on the fine products offered by the members:biggrin::biggrin::smile-big::smile-big:

I also thank the moderators..........all of them..............for doing a job that most of the time draws criticism and attack. Thank you all for keeping this forum great.
