Ok so we have warmer temps now and it is just going to get hotter. It is that time of year that snakes and rats like to come out and play. Last year we killed 8 different snakes but all were before I started turning or I could have made several snake skin blanks. Any way what method do yall use to kept snakes out of your shop and also the rats. I have problems with the wolf rats as well. I put posion out last year for the rat/rats but it just got eaten with no affect. I would really like to head them off this year so that I am not killing them as often.

Please feel free to give your suggestons.

outdoor cats work well

poison only works for a few

traps are nasty and not effective

both of these will cause horrible odors from dead rats and run the risk of harming good/friendly animals

you got to get them under control in layers: clean up any and all food/water, next seal up your shop to keep them out, then you can poison or trap the rest

get the rats out and the snakes will or should not come looking for them

Don't know about the rats, but moth balls are not appreciated by the snakes. Scatter some around the shop. There are snake repellent chemicals and they are kinda pricey. Moth balls have similar chemicals and they are a lot cheaper. Got the idea from our pest control guy.

I tried snake away because I heard moth balls where OK but not the best. I definitely don't want them in my little girls play house. Already had one close encounter with her and a snake.
