Hey wood turners and craftsman of all kinds, lets not forget that Christmas Tree can be a source of some fine gifts after it has served it purpose of serving fine gifts. Instead of throwing away, how about a few pens for memory or ornaments for next year's tree. How about that bottle stopper for new years party. How about a nice log candle holder? Throw some of that tinsel in the mix. Lets see what you got. Let the imagination run wild. Heck a few items produced from the end results of that tree would sure make the large price for trees this year seem a little better. Maybe a special occasion happened this Christmas, new spouse (oh oh), newborn first Christmas, family member special occasion. Ok I gave a few ideas.

Blimey John,
new spouse, newborn first christmas and special occasions !!! You're a fast worker !!!🤣🤣

some great inspiration as always. Have a great family holiday and don't eat TOO much ( haven't as yet worked out how much that is but I'm working on it 😉)

I've been using them for years to make ice cream scoop and bottle opener handles. Can use them for anything that needs a handle. I suppose you could also make salt and pepper mills, they can be large enough.

I also should have posted if you do make something, be sure to post it to both give others ideas and to also gloat some and we can all become jealous. :) Sorry but I would have to go steal the neighbors tree because in my house we are down to the tabletop artificial one. 🙃🎄

Hey Monty, how about giving out some do's and don'ts and maybe show us a few examples to get the ball rolling? Love to see them and read your insights.

I seemed to have asked this question before. here is a link at some replys.

I made a couple of pens from my neighbour's discarded Christmas tree ( Norwegian Spruce ) a couple of years ago.
The blanks were given 10 to 15 seconds in the microwave every minute or so until dry.
Neighbours very happy with the pens ( liked the novelty and the recycling ) and they had not cracked the last time I asked.( the pens I mean )

Real Christmas trees make great fish attractors in lakes. Just remember to remove the lights. A local fishing club or wildlife agency can help in placing them. Our city has the "chipping of the green" where trees are cut into chips and used for landscaping material.

Here's a link to a thread I posted a few years ago showing the handles.
I'll go through several neighborhoods over the next week or so and collect 5-6 trees. I trim the branches off and place the trunk in the attic area of my shop in the garage and let them dry over the summer. I have found that some varieties can be hard to get a smooth finish even with a sharp skew ( could be my technique). I'll turn close to size and then finish with the 80 grit gouge, than finish with sandpaper through 400 grit, apply CA and finish up with micro mesh.

A local town used them to reinforce the sand dunes by the beach. These tended to relocate in the high winter winds and sometimes the wind eroded and destroyed the marren grass that holds them together. Insetting Christmas trees benefitted all the wild life and stabilised the area well
