I have been reading every thread about different techniques involved in CA finishing. I started asking questions on this site a few days ago and after several experiments on pieces of Oak mounted between centershave come up with a way that works for me. Nothing has helped me more than to listen to several of the members.

I still haven't figured out how using a lubricant (BLO) works with CA. I'll have to ask a Chemistry Professor friend how this works.

I read and copied several of the answers given on CAfinishing, and through trial and error have come up with a technique that works for me.

Thanks to everyone for teaching me, an old/tired/retired MARINE to accept change in the way I do things

This forum is a great source of information. When I started learning to use a CA finish I used the "trial & error & look it up on IAP" method.

I see you're in Sapulpa, OK. I was born & raised in Pawnee County - about an hour away. I miss everything except for those spring & summer storms.

Enjoy the Forum. This is a great bunch of folks!

I agree, this forum is a very valuable source of info for the novice like me or the experienced. I found a technique for finishing ca on you tube before I found this site. No doubt some of the videos were from members here. I've gazed at some of the most beautiful pens looking through these pages and have so many things I want to try now. The level of talent here is unbelieveable! And after reading some of the responses to questions asked I realize I am doing some things right

Many many thanks to those who unselfishly provide guidance and inspiration. It gives me great pride to be associated with such a great bunch of people.

Someone beat you to it. Here is the oft-quoted response:

Q: Does anyone understand how Boiled Linseed Oil and CA glue react to make such a
nice finish? When I use CA alone, it's extremely difficult to achieve a
consistent finish, but when you add BLO, it is very easy to get a nice finish.

A: Yes. The CA acts as a cross linker for the BLO - you basically get an
accelerated linseed oil resin matrix with added durability and water
resistance.

Normally, oxygen generates radicals in the oil which then act as cross linkers - a much slower reaction, and resulting in a resin with other properties than a CA-cross linked BLO resin).
