Got my first couple of pens finally given out. This is the first of many notes to come, and I'll put the ones here who get pens from all the wonderful donated materials you guys gave.

I'll have another coming after Spring Break, too. She's trying to work her sense of humor into her note. Should be really good.

Thanks everybody.

So the way it's been working out, with the teachers recommending students, is they tell me who they want to give a pen to, and send the kiddo my way. I give printed instructions and show them around their new pen a bit. Then let them pick a bottle of ink. I have about 15 donated bottles of inks. Reds and purples and greens and blues. :)

She picked this one. She LOVED the smokey swirls.

Quite a few of my kiddos have beautiful handwriting and I really try to encourage that. One of my boys has some amazing cursive. Probably the best handwriting in the school. I try to encourage writing and drawing letters with some of our projects too. Sign and poster making and graffiti and things like that. Lots of fun!

As far as what else I could need.... right now I think I'm really good. I can see ink being an issue in the future, but right now I'm very lucky with donated bottles and I got a little over 100 (maybe closer to 150) short and long carts today. People have been so great!
Thanks so much for asking.

Here's another note and a pic of the pen she chose. I've got two more notes coming soon I hope.

King of Dweebs. THat's a title to be proud of.
She does mean it in an affectionate way though. She's a good kid.

As I have asked before, I will now just mention that many of us will gladly help when needed. Especially when we can see that what we give/donate goes where it is supposed to and the good it does. If you need something just ask. Good work, great job.

OKay - so some of the materials that were donated made their way into pens that didn't get to kids, two pens actually, so I made other pens to replace them, and this is one of them. This boy was so excited and so delighted, all his teachers told me how proud he was to get this thing and how much he's been using it in class where he sometimes wouldn't take notes at all. THAT makes me feel good.

Here's his note.

It's kind of hard to read - he wrote it on a bumpy pic nic table.
"To the members of IAP thanks for helping Mr. Newton with the fountain pens It turned out pretty good. I love it. Thank you.
Steven H."

Here's the pen he chose. He also gave me the idea to start carving into the pens, similar to what Makie artist do with their paintbrushes. Not sure what designs will go into my next wooden pens, but they'll get something.

This one found a new home. There was no twin - just a one off and it found it's way to this girl. It's loaded with a broad stub - so there's a little line variation - and she loves it.

Thanks! I'm really enjoying it too. I counted up names today, and made a list - and I've given away 10 pens so far that I can remember. :)
