Last week I was on vacation in Phoenix, AZ when Sharon (sbwertz) posted some pictures of Desert Ironwood and Carob. Since she lives in Phoenix I jokingly posted about bring some wood home with me. Sharon responded and we ended up meeting up a few hours before my flight home to Minnesota. I ended up with some pieces of DIW and Carob along with a couple of Mulberry pen blanks. In return I will be sending her a nice piece of Boxelder and a few pen blanks.

While in AZ, I also picked up some figured Walnut, a few small pieces of DIW, some Mesquite from my sister in law and some cactus (Cholla and Prickly Pear) that I plan to experiment with casting my own blanks.

Thanks again, Sharon! I hope you enjoy the Boxelder!

Nice score, Doug.
My wife & I will be in Mesa for our nephew's wedding next month & I'm hoping to pick up a little DIW and other local material while I'm there. At the very least, I'll be educating my nephew on things that he can send me from time to time. ;-)

Only question I have, Doug, is what did you do with your clothes LOL. Doesn't look like you had much room left in your suitcase.

Clothes are overrated anyway.:eek:

Actually we had 4 suitcases and 3 golf travel bags so I was able to divvy up the wood without much of a problem.

I did have a couple small pieces of wood in my carry-on. Evidently the wood shows up funny on the X-ray because the TSA made sure to check out my suitcase pretty thoroughly:eek:

You lucky "dog"...!:wink::biggrin:

I would come home/travelled naked if needed be, to get the treasures coming with me, after all, is nothing I have physically that others haven't seen before however, there are unique pieces of wood that no one as ever saw so, I reckon is a good compromise, huh...???:wink::biggrin:

Cheers
George

Several years ago when my father came to visit, I took him out to a big clock parts store here in AZ. His hobby was repairing old clocks. He needed some weights for an 8 day cuckoo clock. Weights for an 8 day clock are BIG. When he flew home, he had them in his carry on, and created quite a stir at TSA. Seems that on xray they looked like hand grenades!

Let me know when you will be here. Maybe we can get together.

When my son asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I told him a box of the cedar logs from his firewood stack. Most of that tree produces the "lavender" color red cedar and it is just beautiful. He sent me a LFRB of it for my birthday.

Good son.

Now that is a good son. Must of been broought up by a good mother.

I got the Box Elder today. You didn't say it was FLAME box elder!!! What a gorgeous piece of wood. I'm a little under the weather right now, but I'll get a picture of it up here soon.

Thank you so much
