Hi all i have just purchased a wood chuck pen pro,as i am new to the world of turning can any one give some tips.
p.s im making pens.

Tool rest at a level to keep the cutting tip at center like Dan says. Do not push it into the material too hard. It cuts fast. Use the sharp carbide edge to cut the material and not pressure. I also like to turn mine when roughing so the that cutter edge is 45 degrees to the material. I think it takes a less aggresiv cut and keeps from chipping acrylic during roughing. (I am by no means an expert though). :)
 
Buy a hose clamp to attach to the post of your tool rest. Put the clamp (loose fit) on the post of the rest. Carefully adjust the rest so the tool is exactly at centerline of the work piece, then lower the hose clamp to contact the banjo, and tighten. Your tool rest is now automatically referenced to the correct height for turning. This is typically the lowest setting you will use, so no need to loosen the clamp when using other tools.
