I was the post about one of those days in the shop. I can fully relate as I am having one in the office. Our color laser printer is down because one of the cartridges would not seat properly. Frustrating be we can get around that one. This morning my main computer decided it did not want to turn on. No, it couldn't be something simple like not boot up, this is full blown no power. We have a spare Dell computer so with any luck it is the power supply and I can swap them out once all of our work is done today. Just frustrating, and things usually happen in threes so I am looking over my shoulder for what is next. :frown:

I just got through pretty much the same thing. I had the post office virus infect my main computor. Your warning was a week late Roy. The shop computor I can get online on with (one of my cnc computors) the hard drive died the day I got the main computor cleaned up and back to work. I just got the shop computor up and re running today with a used hard drive. I went to buy a new hard drive and with the shortages a new hard drive is 1/3 the cost of a completly new computor. I can build a computor for $400.00 that is more than twice the computor I paid $4000.00 for in 2004. I just finished cleaning out the hard drive I used to replace the one that died. Then I had to reload the Mach 3 control software and reconfigure it so the machine will run. Luckily we have the parts and my son could fix the virus problem. I look at these as tests of our character. Its not fun but we learn to get through them.

Mike,

Especially now with the flooding in South East Asia. Hard Drives are hard to find and expensive when you do, the prices for backup tapes just came down from the mess in Japan and now it is the Hard drives.

It might not be your power supply.
Your machine may fail to power up for several reasons. Does the fan turn at all?

I would open up the case and pull the cards out and reseat them. You can also look at your cmos battery change that out. I have purchased a tool that plugs into the umbilical cord that will tell you if your power supply is fried. Newegg sells them for $15

Also unplug the power from the computer for a few minutes and then replug. Sometimes that made my old gaming computer crank up.

Good luck Manny

I had the cabinet from one of the computers from our hardware shop. It was basically the same cabinet design and the power supply was an exact match. Guess what computer I am typing this from now. I also got word from the printing supply source that they are sending a replacement cartridge today.

4:30 is close enough to 5pm, I am going to get a beer.:beer::beer:
