Well the deadline for sending our esteemed Uncle Sugar his pound of flesh is rapidly approaching. I for one bit the bullet and did my taxes today (It was too darned cold to do anything else. About 70F yesterday ans about 20F this morning...50 degree swing overnight too darn much...but I digress, how many of you have already done your civic duty and filed for this season?

That is something I don't procrastinate on. As soon as I have all of the numbers, it's to the forms I go! Then again, I'm still at a point in life where I have a few deductions and am usually due a refund. Let's just say I like to have said refund before the bash is over!

:mad:Tried today to get my returns started. Turbo tax tells me it can't find last years tax data to import for this year. Using the same computer. I've found tax files all the way back to 1995 but not 2012.:mad::at-wits-end::frown::confused:
Do a good turn daily!
Don

My business returns were done a month ago. Personal return is almost done - I'll finish it sometime when I need a break from my regular work.

Well I have planned things for about 40 years so I would either get a minimal refund or owe money....since I retired from my career job in 1992 I have always owed. That suits me, I see no reason to lend the government my money at 0 interest while they squander billions on things that I don't necessarily agree need billions squandered on.

Tax strategy

I always do the forms as early as I can, then decide when to file them. If I am due money, they go out same day. If I owe, April 15th is just fine with me...

Did mine with Turbo Tax the end of January got my small refund glad it is over. Hate to pay income tax on SS to the Feds at least the State doesn't do that. Only have live to 93 to use up my SS and I plan on it.

Did mine a couple weeks ago; took three days to figure it all out. I don't believe in refunds. If I get money back, I adjust my W4's and estimated payments for the next year so they take out less. There is the old saying, "Everybody loves a tax return until you figure out it was your money to begin with." I would rather have the money in my pocket during the year to spend/invest/save than to give the government an interest free loan. It's not like most people (some exceptions) use a tax return to pay off debt or for otherwise useful means. I think the majority of people end up spending on things they would otherwise not waste money on during the course of the year. I took a little hit this year and owe a couple hundred split between the fed and state.

I usually do mine as soon as my W-2 is available. But, I am in Afghanistan, and my wonderful wife is a HUGE procrastinator, I had to reverse the roles and nag her a bit to get the paperwork turned in. She dropped them off with an accountant early this week, they should be done any day now.

^^^^ like spend on pen supplies during the BASH :). (Oops, I let the phone sit awhile before posting!)

For obvious reasons, I won't voice my political stance. I too agree with not loaning the government money, and this year I'll be fixing up my W-4 so as to not loan them a large amount.

<RANT>

Is this a great country or what!
People putting their lives on the line for our country and they still have to worry about filing income taxes.

<END OF RANT>

Finished ours up yesterday. Gotta pay this year, but went ahead and did that to get it done.

Scott.
You do know that you don't have to pay until April 15th. I did mine with efile and when they're accepted I'll print a voucher and send them their pound of flesh postmarked April 15th.

Did mine a few weeks ago and got my refund already. No choice about loaning them money taxes deducted at source from pension. But we have a nice pension sharing deal in Canada where my pension can be split with my wife for tax purposes and since she basically has no income instead of owing a bunch I get a nice refund.

Do you folks file the same time of year that we do -- our deadline is April 15th (it can be extended to August, but if you owe you have to pay by April 15th anyway).
