My wife and I recently returned from a trip to Tanzania where we went on numerous game drives. We were fortunate enough to see Africa's big five- lion, elephant, Buffalo, leopard and rhino. We saw numerous other animals and beautiful birds. We got to know our driver guide very well and enjoyed learning more about the country and its people. Here are some of my favorite photos from our trip.

That's a great adventure. Thanks for sharing the pictures. I love many, but did have to chuckle at the bird on top of the water buffalo/musk ox/? big heafy thingy...

Glad you shared - wifey and I hope to start some vacations.

May I ask who your agent was for such a trip of a lifetime was

We worked with AAA to arrange the trip through African Travel (they have some sort of partnership arrangement). African Travel actually tailored the trip around the Great Migration between Tanzania and Kenya.

That was a Buffalo, one of the Big five. We saw birds on a lot of animals even an impala. My favorite is the leopard which was the hardest for us to see.

Until now I thought the Birds of Paradise pics I have seen from New Guinea were incredible ,now I have seen your equal with amazement in pic one.
The scarred lion has had a number of heavy fights, love the almost haircuts on the others all pics held me in awe of your skill. Indeed so many thanks for holding me spellbound and sharing these on the forum. The rainbow colours on the little bird on the thorn tree,I have encountered a few of these they are mercillyless with those thorns. That Elephant up close would demand a change of underwear. Many thanks Peter.

Beautiful pics, not all cameras can do that nor all the eyes behind cameras can see that well...!

Cheers
George

It's more the camera than me, I justified upgrading my camera last year after planning this trip by convincing Lida that we really wanted some good photos after this trip. I am shooting with a Olympus Pen-f camera with a 100-300 stabilized lens. I love the camera!

Thanks for the compliment. You and I must share the same taste, the three photos you mentioned are among my top picks. I love the battle scarred lion and the old bull elephant with one tusk, ragged ears and an hole in in one ear (you can see the hole if you look closely). Those two guys have some stories to tell.

The leopard is not my best photo but was the most challenging one. The leopard had some extreme back lighting which I struggled with. I would have liked to have gotten out of the truck and walked around to his other side but then I would have likely ended up as dinner. Our guide told us that leopards have an 80% success rate when hunting. The animals ignore the the trucks and passengers but sit up and take extreme interest if you get out of the vehicle.
