I ordered some Ebonite rods (5) Here is the condition the package arrived. My seller has so much integrity, he offered a full refund tomorrow. But, I won't have ANY of that. NOT his fault.

I have never filed a claim with USPS but, I really wanted these rods and, I think USPS owes me. NOT the seller.

I'd be interested to hear any tips on filing, BEFORE I go there. Also, if this will affect my seller in any way I, won't bother with. He's too kind of a person. Thanks for any advice or, opinions. :good:

Ha. I'm heading there tomorrow too. Not for a blanks or pen order issue, but something that just might bring the furor of any parent.
In a clearly marked hard cardboard "envelope" that read "DO NOT FOLD OR CREASE," was my daughter's mutilated college diploma. I am so pissed. It was unnecessarily folded to fit into my mailbox. Oh, did I say that I have an oversized mailbox, where this did not needed to be folded.

Jimm... I'm not a particularily fussy guy. BUT, this would not go down good with me! I would be in line behind you to file a complaint. Mess with me, I'll be patient as you learn your job... Mess with my kids... "Sorry to be you!".

Just remember WHO did the deed. That counter person didn't do it. Go right over their heads to the post master. HE is the one incharge and when the chips fall, HE is the one that will hold someone accountable.

Just make sure the anger you have, is pointed at the right person.

I feel sad for both of you and hope that you can get refunds or replacements.
Please post the results as I would like to know the outcome.

Sometimes.....it's just the principle of the matter. Postage was paid. They will tell you it is insured. I'm fairly certain it, wasn't in that condition when it crossed the counter into USPS hands. AND, postage continues to climb much faster than my SS retirement benefits

Hi Chuck,
Any more you have to file claims on line with the post office... save your pictures and send them along with the claim. I've filed two claims in the last year for broken glasses that I've shipped... the claims were paid promptly and with no fuss.

Just go on line to post office website and save your self a trip to the post office... they'll just send you home to do that anyway.

Jim, Make sure you go there with a very clear idea of exactly what you want as compensation. From personal experience, I know that if the package was not insured, they will assume zero responsibility and simply tell you that there's nothing they can do about it. Good luck and please let us know how it turns out.

Thanks Chuck. Already went there. Clerk tells me the seller has to be the one to file claim online as you said. I'm not going to pursue the issue any further. All is well and, time to move forward.

Thanks for all the responses.

My seller sent a refund. Didn't want it but...I got it. As for packing, many of us have been sending blanks in the USPS fiber envelopes for years now. There may have been issues before. I don't know of any. I know it's much simpler to put blanks in an envelope than to, wrap and tape them in a box. Especially when there are MANY boxes.

I have the same respect and, admiration for my seller as, before I ordered blanks from him. USPS handlers....not so much.

Thanks for the comments.

Last year I received 2 USPS fiber envelopes from 2 different sources that hadn't been able to keep hold of all the blanks on their trip across the country (or however far they came).

So, if you ship with an envelope, make sure you use some good tape!

Chuck I don't know if you know this or not but ebonite can be used in the construction of kitless pens. I know with age sometimes one forgets things and it has been while since we've seen a Chuck Pen, so I thought I would help jog your memory!

Is that right?? Know where I can find a tutorial?:biggrin: I will have you know...I am working on a pen.....slowly

I got an envelope of pen kits that had been clearly run over by a fork lift. You could see the tread marks on one side and the impression of diamond plate on the other, and ink was running out. I brought it back to the PO and showed it to the nice lady behind the counter. She shrugged her shoulders and said "so what". I invited her to bend over and I would show her so what. She wouldn't do it.

I live in Canada, and on occaision I get items shipped from the U.S. The only time I've ever had a problem with shipping across the border through customs, was when the item was shipped in one of these envelopes. On three different shipments there was damage of some sort, and one shipment arrived being just an empty envelope. Everything had fallen out (yeah right). When I approached the post master for a refund, he said sorry, they weren't properly packaged. Even though they were packaged in an envelope supplied by the USPS, and also supplied by Canada Post for this type of shipping. Since then, I no longer allow sellers to ship to me in this type of container. If it can't be shipped in a box, then I'm not interested in buying it. I know a box is more expensive to ship, but, when you get empty envelopes it's money well spent.

I often package blanks in a padded envelope then put the padded envelope in a flat rate envelope or padded flat rate envelope. And use lots of tape. I have also packed boxes and put them in flat rate envelopes you get the flat rate price with the protection of a box.
