I admit, I know very little about car racing.

All of it is getting a LOT of attention from the local news. It is getting equal attention to the upcoming Super Bowl in the news, at least this weekend. I acknowledge the novelty of the race. Still, it leaves me wondering why, especially when we have the Auto Club Speedway nearby, which also races NASCAR cars. I suppose this may be their way of pioneering NASCAR expansion into smaller venues where speedways don't exist.

Perhaps we are the only people in the area who don't get it. For us non-racing-fans, it seems like a lot of hype for what amounts to a go-kart track. Okay, a go-kart track on steroids.

If I offended any die-hard racing fans, I apologize. Chalk it up to our ignorance and inexperience with the racing world. At least you see how others may look at it.

Lots of extra press for The Clash at The Coliseum because they have never held an exhibition race there before, and it's something unique. It's way too small for a regular points race.

I think "The Clash" is more of a tune up race to get some of the top drivers back on the track after a few months off. It's kind of semi-competitive, trying to introduce the sport to folks that haven't traveled to a track before. At least that's how I see it.

The 17th they'll have the dual qualifiers to get into the Daytona 500, a premier race, on the 20th. That's when it starts to get serious.
Auto Club in Fontana is already on the schedule anyway, Feb 27th this year.

Interesting comments on racing, especially NASCAR. Read a statement by a Brit who couldn't understand how one could get excited with cars going in a circle (oval if technical). If it's on TV (rarely), I'll watch a bit of Formula V or sports cars as Watkins Glen. Also, like thoroughbred horses or harness racing.
OK, any old timers remember Don (Big Daddy) Garlits or Tommy Ivo? Tommy had a dragster that had four Buick V-8s! One V-8 weighed more than the mini cars of today.
FWIW, knew a guy who took his vacation to watch the Daytona 500.
Cheers!

Bengals fan here. Have suffered through the 30 year drought and the miserable SB showings and held my head high. Usually with a paper bag over it. you can't be a Jungle Dweller without a sense of humor. I was stationed in Ohio the last time they made a run for the Brass Ring and managed to see them play once. I think it was the home Browns game, Riverfront was a vortex even with a mild breeze. The hotdogs were pricey and the beer was cold. Bengals won, of course.

Then came the Void Years...
