Stripping CA?

I have a very nice segmented Cigar pen finished in CA, and I noticed a dull spot on the finish...I am going to disassemble and remove the finish with Acetone. Any tricks? On the lathe or off? Paper towel? I do not want to sand, as the fit is perfect. Thanks in advance for info. and advice.

Just my opinion, but I would think sanding gently would be a lot less risky than introducing chemicals to the blank... just check it with the calipers, and then reapply the CA until you get the finish and size you want...

I to would sand lightly and apply more CA to build up the finish,probably two or three coats,then buff.

I fixed a pen with a big chip in it, before i learned how to fix it with CA, I lightly skewed most of the CA finish off, then sanded it until it was completely smooth, especially in the area of concern. Then I refinished as I would normally finish the pen. turned out great. I would be leary of using any chemicals on a segmented pen, it may deteriorate the glue joint bonds.

I agree with the others, no chemicals required, just sandpaper then start again.

don, acetone will work. i've recently stripped a few shaving brushes i wasn't happy with the CA finish on. all i did was soak them in acetone for a while and every so often, i'd pull it out, wipe off the goo and let it soak a little longer until it was all gone. it doesn't take very long, i would think even less time with a pen. i guess it depends on how much CA you put on to begin with. i suppose if you soak the barrels, the tube bond might weaken, maybe you could plug the ends with something. i bet you could do it on the lathe also, it just might take a while.
