I have a friend with big hands that would like a Polaris style pen, yet wants it about an inch longer. I have a longer tube but realized that the ink cartridge would not engage the transmission if I make it longer. Have any of you folks done this?

make the cartridge a hat.

just need a piece of plastic or whatever.
make a 1/4 hole in one end to fit the end of the cartridge.
then turn it so that the other end seats into the tranny as the cartridge would turn the outside diameter so that fits in the pen.
and adjust the length as needed.

I've been meaning to do this since I first started making pens. A Jetstream Refill from Uniball is 3/4" longer than a Parker, and writes pretty smooth. I just recently stretched out a Long Clicker specifically to put one in only to find out that the click mechanism was specific to the Parker refill. Haven't yet found time to resolve that issue, but for a twist it should be no problem. They also work as a replacement for rollerballs.
