Steampunk pen length issue

Just turned my first one of these and the refill won't expose enough to write with. I used the tube in the kitchen and everything appears to be pressed correctly but too long. Any ideas how to fix this?

I would disassemble the kit and either sand down or barrel trim down the tube. Sanding being the least possible damaging way to do it.
