Is it possible to thin stainless steel. I have some stainless medals that are 1/8" thick and would like to thin down to 1/16" thick so I could bend around a tube. Any thoughts?? Thanks.

Yes, it's possible
Check the ID to see what size
If it needs to be larger I would suggest a reamer
The OD should not matter

I am looking to thin a piece of medal to get from 1/8" down to 1/16". I may try to cut on my scrollsaw with jewelers blades. The other thing I was thinking if I can possibly use it at the 1/8" thickness maybe try some kerf cuts to see if I can bend around a pen tube.

Have you thought about getting a torch to it and hammering it thinner. Just a thought as stainless is some hard metal to work with.

John

Stainless might be a challenge to file thinner depending upon grade but should grind easily. Definitely calls for a thin fence to stop it departing to a far flung corner of the shop accompanied by several expletives. May I suggest " oh bother " as a starter in that case ?😉

It's the buffer that he must fear... because it'll be "just one more quick touch here...." that'll be followed by *thwap* gone into places unknown

Absolute proof of the existence of another dimension into which fine drill bits, end mills, collets.. disappear only to come back once their replacement arrives DAMHIKT 😉

There was a song about it sometime ,don't fear the buffer ? Blue oyster cult or some such

Thanks everyone. I will let you know how well or bad this goes. I figure SS will be tough to bend and thus I need to thin it. Nothing ventured nothing gained as they say. Just gearing up for some fun pens this winter. Using some new materials for me that I want to see how they look.
