Hi peoples,
The other day when Peter posted a beautiful pen he made out of Spotted Gum, I mentioned that I had a small number of blanks that I cut from a fairly small Spotted Gum burl while these Gum species are quite common in this area, very rarely you see one of these trees with a burl and the main reason is that the burl grows attached to the rots so unless the tree/stump is removed, you would never know.
My decision to put these on sale here has also to do with the fact that, my international sales have been very low all year and once again, this September, my contract with Australia Post for discounted rates (about 30% less) is due for renewal and I'm miles away from the 5G's minimum I have to process in International shipping charges each 12 months, I'm getting very close to losing that contract and without it, all my international orders will be subject to regular shipping charges and that will completely spoil all the work I have done for years to be able to offer discounted shipping rates, losing it will mean the end to international sales or at least 99.5% of them.
So, I'm trying to generate a few International orders to help to bring up the current total amount from these last almost 10 months so, your help would be appreciated.
Anyway, the wood is about 17%MC measured with the Flir laser Moisture meter these meters read 100% as full green/wet wood so, this burl is about 5/4 dry but feels heavy. Some parts of the burl have spalted areas and a combination of other grains that will make stunning pens.
I have also cut this burl utilising the full length of the boards as I was cutting, I left all the long (about 10-11") and semi-long (from 7 to 9") in full length and the rest that was about 5" long were trimmed as normal length pen blanks, there all about 21mm square.
I divided them into 20 groups/packs some 3 some 4 blanks apart from the 5" long that are all 4 blanks per pack.
Each pack has its weight marked at the bottom, all regular size pen blanks packs weigh similar of 240gr which will make a 250gr parcel.
Shipping charges are as follow;
The first 250gr will cost AU$12.00 all increments of 250gr after that will be charged at AU$4.00 each so, for example, 500gr will be AU$16.00, 1kg AU$24.00, etc.,
