I keep meaning to pick some of these up to have while working in the shop, if mine turned out like these I would not want to throw them around...

They are a nice simple project actually. I like the fact that they are one barrel and use a large section to show off a nice blank. I prefer them without the clip for my own use.

I have made some for our resident scenic artist with raw wood. He likes the tactile feel better and it works nice if using exotics like cocobolo.

Take the plunge and make a couple. You will enjoy using them. It makes work that much more fun having a personal tool.

Thanks for the kind words about them.

Very nice group of sketch pencils, I like the verity of materials you used and your fit and finish is spot on. I'm going to have to look in to buying some of those kits my Daughter and older grandchild both like to draw and sketch and they might like them and it might be a nice project for them to try to turn since it one tube and a larger size.

A very nicely done group .For those that do Art shows these sell very well in the $75-$95 range. I used to sell at least 2-3 to other vendors at every show and 5 or 6 to parents for their kids. A great way to pay for the booth space.

At the ends, there is about 0.070-0.080 material on these kits.

I rough turn them using bushings( between centers ) and then turn between centers without the bushings measuring for a decent fit to the hardware.

I rarely use a mandrel anymore.

The customer picked out the blanks and kits for this project. They were shipped directly to me. I just turned and assembled them.

I get my kits from BearToothWoods.
He has four platings available - chrome, gold, gunmetal and black chrome.

I am partial to the black chrome and gunmetal platings.

Awesome sketch pencils! They are really eye catching, like the variety of colors with great finish. Those with black chrome and gunmetal platings are the coolest set of pencils. Excellent job!
