I posted this question in the previous sleep apnea discussion; but, it got lost in the shuffle.

How often do you have to get titrated again? Is it necessary to get titrated again if off for a while or if you get a new machine?

Re-titration is when you have to go to the sleep lab again and get hooked up and your sleep recorded again like the first time.

As far as the sleep clinic told me is once you have it (sleep Apnea) you will always have it. Also the machine I am using is on trial and has a modem on it, so the sleep clinic monitors it for the 30 day trial. I am down to the normal person right now that stops breathing 5 times an hour. That's a long way from 26 where I was tested.

For the most part the machine should be fine unless you have any major physical changes. As in gain or loose a lot of weight. I know somebody who uses one and asked them.

I've had to go 3 times in the past 8 years. The original study, once after the throat surgery for apnea and the last time because I started back having symptoms and had to have my pressures raised. Both of the last ones were due to physical changes.

I totally disagree. I took all the different tests the doctors told me I had to get the machine. Not 1 doctor looked down my throat. what was 6 doctors. They just looked at the test results. I went to a different doctor and he said something different. first lose the weight i did and the medical condition went away.!! Read DR. William Davis's articles there on the web! for free! that's a start. Then read The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson

Many of the medical problems we human have are cause by us. with bad habits If you serious you can change the bad habits and take a different path in life. it takes will power, Do you have the right stuff to change your situation!

Did all that and nothing changed, I have a very small air way and the doc said it's just part of your make up, and age. Said surgery is only a temp fix.

My office told me that as long as the AHI number that counts the Apnea events throughout the night doesn't exceed 5.0, nothing needs to be done. If that number goes above 5.0, that means the machine is not preventing the apnea events from occuring and you need to be retritrated again for a new pressure setting.

That's the way I understood it.....

That's nice.

I was told that if your neck measures over 16 1/2" dia, you're almost guaranteed to have some level of sleep apnea. Now if I could just get some of those neck stretching rings those native Kayan gals wear, I could retire the machine.

I been tested 3 times First time the technician almost had a heart attack when she watch me sleep. She was so scared she woke me up several times to see if I was still alive.:)Second time was because of losing 70+ pounds.Third time just recently cause of insurance battles.I still sleep with a full face mask at 15 pressure plus Oxygen at 4.0 liters.I'm a COPD and sleep apnea and a whole lot of other conditions patient.
But all is working pretty well.
