Skiprat/Steven and his wife Karen are touring New England. Newlondon88 and myself met them in New Hampshire for a quick bite to eat and some conversation. Other than a strange accent and the ability to make neat bolt pens, he fits into our New England culture nicely. Nice meeting you Karen and Steven. Charlie, Steven and Karen

Alton, it was great fun meeting up with you and Charlie !!! We didn't have much time but lunch was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our chats!!
Here's a pic my missus took of 'Three Old Farts', ( her words, I promise !! ) as we parted in the parking lot.

We made it safely to Stowe VT( beautiful !!! ) and tomorrow night we head off to the Adirondacks NY for a couple days then a couple days in the big apple before going home.

Also a pic of Chevy Apache 10 ( I believe:confused: ) that was in the hotel car park. I would LOVE to have something so stupid and butt ugly in my driveway !!!!

Thanks Alton. I DO hope Steven and Karen enjoy their visit in the states. Wish they could make it to Florida.

Thanks Chuck, we are indeed enjoying your wonderful country. It has certainly been an eye opener to see how the other half of civilisation lives.
New England is quote; 'Wicked Good'
Hopefully we can save up some more pennies to visit another segment of USA in the future.

Just one thing.......if we don't get to see a freakin real live MOOSE soon, then we're gonna be seriously peed off!!!

Wow.. that *is* a butt ugly brute.. and that truck doesn't look so hot
either. HA!!! (besides, it drives on the wrong side)

It was great to meet you both. And yeah, it was a little too short. Next
time it should be a long weekend complete with BBQ, hammocks, lake
front property etc.

Skip and I swapped matching pens.. except his wasn't assembled yet.

Oh Man you gotta come to Canada to see those. Lol

Lin.

I would like to know who's who in the photo. I already know the Chevy

Glad you're enjoying your visit Steven. And, yes you need to come see the Salt Life on the beach. Guess I'll have to send you a souvenir

Make a quick side trip to Northwestern Montana and I'd be glad to show you 1, 2, 3 or more moose, deer, elk etc some of which seem to think my "former" rose garden make good winter feed! *GRRRRRRRRRRRRR*

Well, Steven! As soon as you get to see your bona fide moose. You need to pack up the Mrs. and head down mine and Chuck's way. Once you've seen one armed "Lucky Joe's Alligator Ranch", moose is small potatoes:)

Seriously, I hope you do enjoy your stay here! Just remember that those Rolex watches on the streets in NYC are NOT underpriced. I hope on your next visit, you do get to come South to see the lakes and the beautiful beaches the South has to offer. As much as I enjoy New England's scenery and tastee lobster. I put the Georgia "peaches", Appalachecola oysters, Gulf Coast shrimp, crawfish, grouper and blue crab claws right up there with New England's finest.

We DO speak Welsh here (I get my lessons from a 6 year old Welshpool native), AND I've been saving some unplundered skips, hoping for diving lessons from the master.

Seriously, I'm glad you made it back here and I hope in the future that you get to explore the sunny South!

I like the truck, not ugly at all (classic good looks). Looks like Ford Fusion country in the picture though. Welcome to the colonies, I hope that you had a great time and enjoyed the hospitality.

Guess I'll have to send you a souvenir

Hey Chuck, How much you reckon it'll cost us to send a Manatee to Wales? I don't think the USPS makes a flat rate box that size:)
Andy, I'd be lucky to find one around here. The Red Tide has claimed 174 of them. I'm sure if Steven saw one, he'd fall in love with it though.

Andy
You dont send the whole thing just the flank steaks. Where ever those are at on a Manatee.

I heard the young ones are most tender!

ROTFLMAO! We HAVE TO stop this conversation NOW! My "Rhino Horn" razor and shaving bush looked good enough for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department to try to arrest me at a show... Took me forever to convince them it was manmade!

If they got word of THIS conversation.... I'd be right back on their radar:) GOOD THING I went to school with Dan Ashe:)

Hum! Flank steaks...well it IS a red tide:) TONGUE IN CHEEK!!!!

I had a thought (yes, I did) If Steve and missus had the time, we have enough members, that we could all pitch in and shuttle them all over this land. Reducing out of pocket expense. What say you Skip? Wanna spend a few years here?

Steven,
If you want to travel and see some of your kinfolk, stop by east Tennessee... the Scotch-Irish and the Welsh settled the mountains around here... I think they may still speak the mother tongues... some of these locals come down out of the mountains and I don't understand a word they say... 'course they mixed the Welsh with the Cherokee and now we have a real hodge-podge of language.

Chuck, I watched a show on Documentary channel a couple of weeks ago, titled "Mountain Talk" I believe that's exactly what you're referring to. Interesting show.

I haven't seen that, but would be interested... I absolutely love living in east Tennessee, but some of these folks do talk funny....worse than us Texans.

A funny story I tell every now and then... I was just out of boot camp and in radio school in San Diego... one night on liberty I was standing at the bus stop to go back to base and a guy asked me the time... my only answer was 22:00... his next question was "what part of Texas are you from".... I must have been a REAL hick in those days... I still have an accent, but have spent the last 50 years working on my diction so I at least sound less of one.

LOL, you guys are nuts !!!
We are having an absolutely wonderful time here in this fantastic and fascinating country!!. We've clocked up around 2500 miles on the rental Jeep, but it's a pleasure paying such low fuel prices.
We were supposed to be in Connecticut this evening but changed our plans.
We decided to spend our 25th anniversary ( tomorrow ) in and around the Big Apple. We are in New Jersey at the moment and have found a great tour that will pick us up in the morning from the hotel and take virtually the whole day to do Manhattan, Statue of Liberty etc. One of the stops is the World Trade Center Memorial Site. It does a bus and yacht tour that sounds great.

This is the last leg of our road trip and I wish we could have met up with everyone !!

Thanks for all the suggestions of places to visit, we did many of them. From the Lobster shacks of Maine to the snowy frozen lakes of the Adirondacks !!
One of the nicest things we found here was the splendid hospitality we found in every place we visited. You should all be proud of your country for the way it treats it's visitors. We'll remember it for many years!!

Happy Anniversary Steven. I'm glad you and your wife are enjoying the sites. Thanks for coming to the USA and, spending your money. We are in bad shape here  Have a safe trip home, when you go.

Jerry, I'm sure you were just joking, but just in case...
There is nothing wrong with NJ, we enjoyed every minute there and in Manhattan. ( We leave in the morning):frown:

One of my 'MUST SEE' sites was WTC and I must say that it is indeed breathtaking !! If you haven't seen it then make the effort, it's worth it.

I have never really liked big cities, but this trip really inspired me.
We had a wonderful 'Native New Yorker' guide, 'Ed' who was an older gent that was an absolute hoot. His stories of how the area suffered and fought back against 9/11 and Sandy were amazing.

I hate to bore anyone with holiday snaps but here are a couple of pics from today that I really enjoyed.

Thanks again USA !!! You have raised my opinions, yet again:wink:

Edit in; One thing I wanted to mention was the reflections in the glass. On a day like today, the buildings looked see through and the clouds seemed to match the background rather than the reflection.

Steven, I'm glad you are enjoying your visit. Should you find yourself in the San Antonio area (now or in the future), you and Karen have a place to stay! Just let me know and we'll have a bed ready.
