Alan Lacer recommends that the bevel be about 1 1/2 times the thickness of the skew.

Ed Davidson vidios show him using skews with about a 1:1 (length of bevel to thickness).

Ed does mostly acrylics and Alan does mostly wood.

My oval skews sharpen up with the bevel longer in the center where it is thicker -- but the skew body is still oval

Hey Darryl!!

I'm trying to picture and seeing the "Lacer cut" skew"???
Kind of a "belly" to the edge, instead of a straight line?

"Oval skew" actually means the skew has no flat side, along its length, but I don't THINK that is what you are trying to say.

Right?

Yes, had a "belly" in the bevel, but when I went to sharpen it I ground the bevel flat. No more belly.
